I was spending the day with my child, trying to explain what Americanism is to my child an feeling like I’m in over my head. It seems it is no longer taught in our school systems, like it once was. Because and this is just my opinion our society has made it unfashionable to stand up and be proud to be an American. When I asked the child if she knew the national anthem, the child didn’t know it. I told the child you come from a military family and you should know it. So I began by explaining that being proud to be American isn’t about believing America has always been right. It’s about appreciating what the country stands for, understanding its history-including its failures-and believing that its promise is worth protecting and Improving. And always remember these five things Knowing our history, Respecting those who Serve and the Sacrifice they made. Understanding our symbols like the national anthem, the pledge of allegiance, and the meaning of the flag. Appreciating our freedoms like the freedom of speech, religious liberty, the right to vote and the responsibility that come with living in a free society. And Importantly Learning to be a good citizen showing that honesty, responsibility, respect for others, and helping your community are expressions of PATRIOTISM
